He acquired his taste for beer as a student bartender. And just as all young beer must mature, so the budding connoisseur’s expertise grew as he trained in Belgium and around the world. He’s now a lecturer in zythology – the study of beer and brewing – and writes for publications including Hopper, Zytholoog and Vino Magazine in Belgium, Hops Magazine in China and All About Beer in the US. He’s also a member of the British Guild of Beer Writers.
As well as using the written word to spread the beer gospel, Luc organises tasting events and presentations for private companies, including Optima, ING, AXA and several breweries.
His years of international business experience mean he understands the industry as well as the craft of brewing. Sharing this expertise with brewers, he offers sensible advice on branding, marketing and customer relations to help them keep their businesses healthy.
And as the appetite of brewers and caterers for food and beer pairing grows, they can call on Luc to push their culinary boundaries. Dock’s Café in Antwerp and The Capital are just two of the restaurants he has joined in their quest for the ultimate beer menu.
His expertise and objective criticism make him popular with international beer festivals, which regularly invite him to join their judging panels. He’s been a juror at the World Beer Cup in the US, the International Beer Competition in Japan, the PINT Bockbier festival in the Netherlands and numerous Belgian festivals. He’s also a Tasting Director and Project Manager for the Brussels Beer Challenge.
